NEWS  FROM  AMUKENI

The year started with a contract being agreed between Amukeni and the

Dutch Water Company in Mtwapa to supply the school with totally

clean drinking water.

After removing the roof a very large plastic drum was installed allowing the

children for the first time cool clean water on tap.

However, a Health and Education Inspectors visit during the out break condemned the school toilets as inadequate and said that the school could not reopen for the new term unless 3 extra ones were built.

Things move in mysterious ways, as the Project Fund had been generously left a large amount of money by a friend who had recently died. Building work started at the beginning of the summer break and now we have 5 toilets - 2 for boys - 2 for girls and 1 for the teachers all to be named the

Poppy  Block after its benefactor.

We have achieved much over the last 3 years at the school but nothing better than the increase in exam passes to the local Primary School - so much so that they have been awarded a feeding program for all the children for the next twelve months.
